Classic from the Betty Crocker cookbook.

ingredients

  • 3/4Cup —
    Butter
  • 1 1/2Cups —
    Chopped celery (with leaves)
  • 3/4 Cup —
    Finely chopped onion
  • 9Cups —
    Soft bread cubes
  • 1Teaspoon —
    Salt
  • 1/2Teaspoon —
    Ground sage*
  • 1 1/2 Teaspoons —
    Chopped fresh thyme leaves or 1/2 teaspoon dried
  • 1/4Teaspoon —
    Pepper

instructions

  1. Heat butter in a Dutch oven or a large cast-iron frying pan over medium-high heat.

  2. Cook celery and onion in butter for about 2 minutes.

  3. Remove from heat.

  4. Stir in remaining ingredients.

*I personally do not use the ground sage, do not like the taste.
